Girl floating at Mataranka Thermal Springs

Mataranka first made its claim to fame as the town featured in the novel We of the Never Never, an autobiography written about life living on the nearby Elsey Station by Jeannie Gunn. These days, the star attraction is Elsey National Park where you can go swimming in the crystal-clear waters at Mataranka Thermal Pool and Bitter Springs. Non-powered camp sites are available inside the Park. Mataranka has a caravan park and cabin style accommodation.
