Once a thriving railway town, Hawker retains much of its 1880s charm. It's a great base for day trips, as well as offering shops, an airstrip, vehicle repairs, hospital, sport centre, scenic flights, 4WD tours and various places to eat and stay. For great panoramic views of the surrounding area, head to Jarvis Hill, Camel Hump or Castle Rock lookouts.
